The Review: I had this whole review written about MRCK having made an almost pitch-black "concept map". Turns out I played the wrong version; maybe I should actually read the emails I get before playing. In any case, the "normal" version of the map is actually in some ways more disappointing, consisting of sharp 90-degree walls everywhere. You traverse upward in this desert/cliff environment and need to pick up three keys on the way there to unlock the last segment. The place is surrounded by slime and lava, so watch your step! (Now imagine playing this with every texture but the liquids pitch black...) The "gimmick" isn't revealed until very late in the map as you view it from above via the automap (if you still don't get it, type "dnscotty107" and explore). Navigation is rather simple; there's only one junction where you need to decide which way to go, but both paths need to be investigated for keys anyway. There's a lot of jumping, but in this "colored" version it's rather straightforward. Reaching key spots invites in a bunch of respawns; maneuvering out of the way of their projectiles can be tricky because of your surroundings. To keep things under control, you better take care of all enemies as soon as you spot them, before you end up causing more to respawn. It's not too bad by MRCK's modern standards, but there's still plenty of annoying "getting shot at from all directions at once".
Due to the map's blocky nature (again, explained by the map's gimmick) it's not much of a visual feast, but at least the trees that are scattered across the map look rather nice with their sloped sprites (a new-ish feature) and all.
There are three versions of the map included: one vanilla, one for Alien Armageddon (this is the one that's pitch black in regular Duke due to missing AA textures) and one for Blast Radius. I tried the AA one for a little bit but was quickly out of ammo and got overwhelmed by all the spam so fast that I stopped one third into the map.

Anyway, RIP Robert "Bobby" Prince.
